Canvas

Canvas, written and directed by Joseph Greco, stars Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden, Emmy winner Joe Pantoliano & Devon Gearhart. CANVAS tells the harrowing story of a blue-collar American Family torn apart by mental illness, and the love that keeps them together. Available for streaming on Apple TV.

The film won the Best Feature Film Award (Alice in the City Prize) at the Rome International Film Festival (Roma Cinema Fest) in 2007, and Best Feature Film awards at several film festivals across the country; including Audience Awards at the Nantucket, Sedona & Sarasota Film Festivals, and Official Selections (NY Film Critics, AFI Dallas). CANVAS premiered at the Hampton’s International Film Festival and was heralded by such film critics as Roger Ebert and Peter Travers of Rolling Stone Magazine. Roger Ebert selected CANVAS for screening in his own film festival and honored Joseph Greco and the movie with his signature “thumbs up” award.

I loved working with Joe. He does his homework, and runs a calm set (even in the middle of a hurricane!). His passion is the fuel for his work, creating smart, heartfelt films.

— Marcia Gay Harden, Academy Award-winning actress known for Pollock, Mystic River, and The Morning Show.

Joseph Greco is a very talented writer/director and I would love to work with him again!

— Joe Pantoliano, Primetime Emmy-winning actor known for The Sopranos, The Matrix, and Memento.

Joe Greco is a talented and determined film maker. I have always been impressed by his commitment, courtesy and good humor.

— Bruce Beresford, two-time Academy Award-nominated director known for Driving Miss Daisy, Breaker Morant, and Tender Mercies, and Executive Producer of Canvas.

Working with Joe is a joy! He is calm and clear on the set and in post production. He communicates easily and openly and stays true to the creative fire of his vision resulting in films that are moving, intelligent and uplifting.

— Lisbeth Scott, award-winning singer, songwriter, and composer known for her vocal work in Avatar, Munich, and HBO’s True Blood.

Joseph Greco has many skills that are invaluable to the directing process. He creates a safe—and therefore highly creative—environment for actors, whether on a sound stage or a movie set. He has clarity about the material (his own or that of another writer), and he is able to communicate that clearly to actors and crew alike. With a firm hand, he is also receptive to discoveries along the way. His process brings depth, authenticity, and truth to the material, and helps elevate the work for everyone involved.

— Barbara Bain, three-time Primetime Emmy Award-winning actress known for Mission: Impossible and Space: 1999.

“Canvas” is a serious film about mental illness and a sentimental heartwarmer, and succeeds in both ways.

— Roger Ebert

A triumphant, beautifully acted film.

— Peter Travers
